Judge Rules Eclipse Claims False
Source from:Tobacco Reporter  03/15/2010
A state judge ruled on Wednesday that R.J. Reynolds Tobacco made false and misleading marketing claims last decade to sell its Eclipse cigarette brand, according to a story by David Kesmodel for The Wall Street Journal.

Vermont Superior Court Judge, Dennis Pearson, ruled that Reynolds violated the state's consumer-protection laws through advertisements that claimed Eclipse "may present less risk of cancer" and other diseases.

The judge ruled also that Reynolds violated the terms of a 1998 legal settlement between tobacco companies and 46 state attorneys general, which bars companies from misrepresenting information about the health risks of tobacco use.

Reynolds said on Thursday it was disappointed with the ruling and was reviewing its options. Enditem
