Source from:Tobacco Reporter  03/19/2010
Waverley Council, whose jurisdiction includes the beach suburb of Bondi in Sydney, Australia, has voted to ban smoking in outdoor caf¨¦s and restaurants from July, according to a story by Josephine Tovey for the Sydney Morning Herald.

It voted on Tuesday also to ban smoking within 10 meters of playgrounds, parks and reserves.

Councillor Kerryn Sloan, who put forward the smoking ban proposal and who reportedly had a lung removed because of cancer was quoted as saying, "This is an issue very close to my heart".

According to a reminder to smokers on its website, Waverley Council already bans smoking "on the sand on all our beaches". Enditem
